Edgemoor Yarns is a small-scale yarn producer based in Orkney, creating fully traceable knitting yarn from the wool of Cassandra Longhi’s own flock. Having previously worked with wool from neighbouring farms in Devon and now Orkney, Cassandra’s focus is increasingly on producing distinctive yarns that reflect the character of Orkney’s sheep and landscape. Her flock is predominantly Cheviot and Cheviot × British Berrichon, with a few black Cheviots. The aim is to produce high-quality knitting yarn from the soft hogg fleeces, while exploring the addition of locally sourced Bluefaced Leicester to create a truly 100% Orkney yarn. Production remains intentionally small, with less than 50kg of wool processed each year from a flock of around 50–70 sheep.
