Farmer’s Yarn exists to support the early stages of working with British wool at a smaller scale – helping makers, designers and emerging brands build products and businesses rooted in British fibre.

The Farmer’s Yarn Promise sets out the shared values that connect our community.

It reflects our commitment to farmers, to makers, and to the future of British wool.

British wool begins with sheep grazing landscapes across the country – from upland farms to lowland pastures.

The fibre we work with reflects those places, the flocks that produce it, and the farmers who care for them. We recognise and support the diverse ways of working across our varied landscapes.

Farmer’s Yarn celebrates wool’s part in a living agricultural system. By supporting new markets for British wool, we help ensure that this relationship between land, animals and people continues into the future.

Supporting British Wool

Members of the Farmer's Yarn community work with British wool, helping to strengthen demand for fibre produced by British farmers. Our aim is to build confidence in British wool and encourage more businesses to use it in their products.

British wool begins with the work of farmers. Farmer's Yarn supports fair and transparent relationships between farmers, fibre producers and makers, recognising the knowledge, care and labour involved in producing wool.

Learning The Wool System

Working with wooll means understanding how fibre moves from farm to finished product. Farmer's Yarn encourages members to learn about the wool supply chain - from grading and processing to spinning, weaving and manufacturing and share that knowledge with the public.

Growing Stronger Businesses

Farmer's Yarn helps members build confidence and knowledge so their businesses can grow. As members develop and increase their production, we celebrate their progression into working directly with organisations such as British Wool and the wider commercial wool industry.
