About

Woven in the Bone is a micro weaving mill based on Scotland’s Moray Firth coast, producing artisan cloth on vintage treadle looms. Founder Sam Goates creates woven cloth for tailors, small brands and farmers, while also weaving scarves, wraps and occasional bespoke rugs. Working with a wide range of British breeds, Sam has woven with Herdwick, Cheviot, Scottish Bowmont Merino, Castlemilk Moorit, Shetland and Ouessant wool, alongside commercially available Australian and New Zealand fibres where appropriate. Her work focuses on celebrating the character of individual wools and transforming them into beautifully crafted textiles. Sam can offer product development and design services for woven products.
