About

I created The Journal of Scottish Yarns to promote Scottish textiles by sharing stories of its people, heritage and culture and by commissioning craft projects that use Scottish materials (ie. from Scottish companies). A large part of what I am promoting Scottish wool: I feature the 10 native sheep breeds of Scotland, stories about several crofts, farms and manufacturers have appeared in issues (Johnstons of Elgin, Locharron of Scotland, Silly Sheep Fibre Company, Choc Flock, Creative Mill CIC, Birkhill House CIC). I also created a map (available as a free download on my website) to share the people and businesses creating products from Scottish wool: https://yarnjournal.com/shop/scottish-wool-map This was in response to my growing knowledge and network. I am a member of the Scottish Textiles Industry Leadership Group, chaired by Simon Cotton, and support the work of UKFT by growing knowledge and networks. I am co-author of the Scottish Wool Strategy request to the First Minister asking that wool be put on the national agenda and recognised as an important Scottish resource.
